When games
lead to pains.
Sports
injuries most frequently result in one of two ways:
1.
Acute Injury
2.
Overuse Injury
Acute
Injury
Acute injuries occur when we ask the body to do something
that it is physically not used to doing.
Sprinting down to first base when suddenly you pull you leg
muscle.
Or it could be more subtle... like taking a big chuck of
grass on your golf swing - now suddenly your wrist hurts!
Overuse
Injury
The body needs time to rest. Every sport activity causes
microscopic damage to the muscles and joints. When you don't have
adequate rest time in between your activities, this damage doesn't heal.
Overtime the damage gets worse until it weakens the muscle to the point
where it starts causing pain. Now you can't run without your knees
hurting. Or your shoulder aches every time you lift weights.
Both Acute and Overuse injuries require immediate treatment once they
start causing pain. The longer you wait to get treatment, the longer its
going to take to get better.
Often, a brief course of muscle therapy (like
Active Release
Technique®)
can clear the problems out of the muscle in 1-2 weeks. If followed up by
the right rehab exercises, you'll be on your way to recovery. If not...
expect it to come back again - maybe in a year, maybe in a week.
